#oasisHostels

The Oasis Backpackers’ Hostel in Granada is where the now “famous” Oasis concept of hospitality began. When we opened Granada almost 13 years ago we started with one main belief. Traveling is fun, meeting people is essential and really feeling like you got to know a city through its smells, sounds, people, food, alcohol and culture are the only things that matter.

#oasisRooms

At the Oasis Backpackers’ Hostel in Granada we have many types of rooms ranging from 6 to 10 bed dorm for all types of travellers. All rooms come standard equipped with comfortable beds, personal lockers, linen, blankets, electronic access and free wi-fi access. All rooms have their own ensuite bathroom.

#oasisactivities

One of the reason our hostels have the reputation they have is that besides being a great place to sleep, Oasis Backpackers’ Hostels are a great place to “be” and meet people. In Granada, our philosophy is simple: We want our guests to connect with other guests and our staff and enjoy the city together. We want people to not only stay in Granada but know what it’s like to live here. We offer numerous activities that are designed to help you meet other travellers and reveal what we like and know about Granada.

#Top10 Things to see or do when in Granada

Granada is amazing! A city full of vibrant student life and a rich history, Granada is the soul of Southern Spain. With this list of must-see sights, you’re sure to see Granada the way it’s meant to be seen and experience all the best parts of this Andalucian gem – like tasty free tapas, distinct culture, amazing architecture, vibrant flamenco, and bustling night life.

The beauty of the Alhambra is world renowned. Strategically situated on top of a hill overlooking the city of Granada, the design’s functional purpose as the last Moorish stronghold in Spain is overshadowed by its incredible splendour and its intermingled fountains, gardens, and ornate stone work.

Calle Real de la Alhambra Open October 15th to March 14th, 08:30h – 18h / March 15th to October 14th, 08h30 – 20h 12€ entry www.alhambra.org

Granada, or better said the caves of the Sacromonte are one of the cradles of flamenco. Try Venta a El Gallo or La Chien Andalou for some true flamenco. The flamenco dance will be performed by artists who are direct descendants of many famous names in the flamenco world. A number of clubs in the city also have flamenco shows throughout the week. Check out our suggestions for the Best Flamenco Venues.

The Albaizín is the old Arabic quarter located on the hill opposite the Alhambra. It is characterized by cobble stoned streets with white washed houses. There are many squares with terraces and places to laze about or grab a bite to eat. Get lost in its small, windy streets and get an idea of how life was in the past centuries. Mirador San Nicolas is right in the centre of the Albaizín. Go there to have a brilliant view of the Alhambra, and the snow of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Maybe you’ll get lucky and find some gypsies playing Flamenco and singing. Start by walking up from the hostel, leaving the Church of San Gregorio on your right.

Surely you don’t need to be told to eat tapas. They’re free after all. At any tapas bar, all you need to order is a drink – be it beer, sangria, cola, or whatever – after a few sips, you will be surprised by generous servings of tapas. The most classic tapas are generally located around Pedro Antonio and the touristy Plaza Nueva. It’s unclear how they can afford to give away so much food, but who cares? Enjoy

Walk to the Caves on Sacromonte from San Miguel Alto and enjoy one of the most beautiful and impressive views of Granada. More than 1,000 people live in caves in Granada. The gypsies arrived about 600 years ago and many of them congregated in these caves of the Sacromonte. The mixture of Arabic influence combined with the particular lifestyle and temperament of the gypsies created flamenco.

One of the most beautiful buildings in Granada. As is the case of most Christian buildings in Granada, the Cathedral was built on the site of a former Mosque. Work on the Cathedral began on the 15th of March, 1523, and it was not completed until 1704, as construction came to a halt during the Plague.

You will find baths with different temperatures, like in the Al-Andalus times, hopping from one pool to another. Massages are optional and a great way to take a break from stressful travelling.

Go to Monachil via the Los Cahoros Mountain Route to see the beautiful nature of Andalucia. You can enjoy beautiful views, waterfalls, and a babbling mountain river there.

Along Calderia Vieja and Calderia Nueva, twisting antique lanes climb the hill into the heart of the old Muslim district of the Albaizín, where Arab shops offer handmade crafts from Morocco, sweets from Jerusalem, and pungent Arabian spices. Softly lit tea houses promise mint tea and water pipes, evoking the hospitality of ancient Persia.

Tired of walking up and down Granada? Get on a Segway and choose one of four fun tours exploring the city and its surroundings. Oasis Hostel’s guests take these tours at a special rate. Lucky you!

This hostel was amazing. The rooms were basic but clean, they facilitated amazing walks and tours during the day and recommended great places at night. This hostel helped me enjoy my time in Granada all the more. Loved it and would recommend to anyone to go!

On the morning I arrived there was a hike through Sierra Nevada planned. You pay a few euro for the bus fare, and then the rest you pay guide at the end what ever you think it’s worth. For me it was an amazing day meeting some great people. Great for solo travellers!

Overall, I had a great experience at this hostel. Accommodations are great, rooms have enough space and lockers for each guest. It is in a central location near the Catedral and within walking distance to Alhambra. Make sure to use a map to find the location as it can seem a but hidden. Restrooms and rooms were clean, they have daily activities which you can choose to take a part on. Highly recommended.
